New Tight Fit option builds watertight 3D solids directly from scattered point data in Excel; update also streamlines range selection and improves color interval editing
OTTAWA, Ontario — September 28, 2026 — ThreeDify Incorporated today announced the release of XLGrapher v6.5.0, the latest version of its 3D graphing & CAD add-in for Microsoft Excel. The release introduces Tight Fit, an alternative surface reconstruction option that produces tight-fit watertight solids from unorganized point data, and delivers a set of usability improvements and fixes requested by users.
Tight-Fit builds a closed, tighter-fit watertight mesh around scattered X-Y-Z points. Where the existing alpha-shape surface excels at open terrains and draped surfaces, Tight Fit is intended for closed shapes: ore bodies, cavities, stockpiles and scanned objects. It is selected with a single checkbox in the Modify Graph Series dialog, and XLGrapher falls back to the alpha shape automatically if a reconstruction cannot be completed.
“Excel users have data that describes solid objects, not just surfaces, and until now XLGrapher could only wrap it in an open shell,” said Yaohong Jiang, founder of ThreeDify. “Tight Fit closes that gap. You point it at the same three columns and get a proper solid, with points, spheres and data tracking still tied to your original cells.”
Also in this release
- Whole-column and whole-row selection. Clicking a column or row header now selects usable data ranges; selections are trimmed to the sheet’s data automatically.
- Header cells accepted. Columns and rows that begin with a text header are used as-is, with the header skipped.
- Colour Interval Editor. A new Insert command adds an interval above the selected row, and editing an interval’s upper bound updates the next interval’s lower bound to keep intervals contiguous.
- Fixes. Points, spheres, picking and data tracking now always reference the original Excel data regardless of how a surface is meshed; graph series no longer disappear, and axis ranges no longer collapse, when color intervals do not cover every series; data-tracking text displays reliably in hardware rendering mode; a potential crash when applying series changes has been resolved.
XLGrapher v6.5.0 is available now from the XLGrapher download page. Files saved by earlier versions open without changes.
